Margate Removals

About us

Built for a town that isn't all houses

Most removals firms are organised around a three-bed semi with a driveway. Thanet has some of those. It also has a great deal else, and pretending otherwise is how quotes come apart on the doorstep.

The question we start with

Not how many bedrooms. What the property is. Because the answer to that changes when we can start, who lets us in, what gets wrapped, what happens to the things that are not coming, and who else is inconvenienced if the day runs long.

A lived-in home has a loft, a shed and a garage that nobody counts. A holiday let has a window that cannot move and a standard of finish higher than a house move. A second home usually has an owner somewhere else and a keyholder who needs naming in writing. A studio has work in progress that cannot be replaced and materials we are not legally allowed to carry.

Four completely different days. One question that tells us which one we are having.

What the coast adds

Salt in the hinges of anything that has lived in a seafront garage. Cardboard that has quietly lost its strength in a damp basement. Wind that turns a wardrobe door into a sail on an exposed front. Parking that is decided by loading bays and promenade restrictions rather than by how close you can get. And a housing stock that is largely Georgian, Regency and Victorian, a great deal of it converted, a great deal of it listed.

None of that is on an inland remover’s checklist, because inland none of it happens. Here it happens on most jobs, and allowing for it in advance is the difference between a quote that holds and a quote that gets revised while the van is waiting.

How we work

We survey properly rather than quoting off a room count, and we look in the garage. We take condition photographs at both ends and send them to you, because in a town of lets and second homes that evidence is worth more than a promise. We take our own packaging away. We quote weekends the same as weekdays, because in a town like this the weekend is frequently the only time a property is free.

And when a job will not fit the window somebody is hoping it will fit, we say so before the booking rather than on the morning.

Where we are

Margate, and the whole of Thanet either side of it, out to the villages inland.

What we are not

Not a national brand with a local number, and not a comparison site that sells your details on. When you send a quote request it comes to us, and the person who reads it is the person who organises the job.

We also have no awards and no press coverage to show you. If that changes we will say so and show you where it came from.

Tell us what the property is

A home you live in, a let with a changeover, a second home you come down to, or a studio you work from. That answer shapes the quote more than the number of bedrooms does.
