Margate Removals

What we do

Removals in a town that isn't all houses

Same vans and same crews as anybody else. What differs is the question we start with, and the fact that the coast makes some of this work genuinely harder than it is inland.

The jobs we get asked for

A whole household

Loft, shed, garage and under-stairs surveyed as separate spaces rather than folded into a room count, because in Thanet that is where the second van comes from.

A part-load

A sofa, a bed and six boxes rather than a household. Furnishing a second home in stages is normal here and it should not cost what a full move costs.

A let, in or out

Furnishing, refurnishing or stripping, planned inside the changeover window with replace, store and return separated before the van rather than in it.

A studio or workshop

Work, tools and materials handled as three different problems. Work in progress crated properly, or told plainly that it should travel with you.

Packing, or just the materials

A full pack, a part pack of the awkward things only, or boxes dropped off. For a let or a studio the part pack is usually the sensible one.

Storage between stages

Across a gap in a chain, between a strip and a refurnish, or while a property is being worked on. Sealed once, delivered when you are ready.

Included as standard

  • Condition photographs at both ends

The property as we found it and as we left it, sent to you. Standard on every job, and the thing let owners and second-home owners actually want.

  • Hall, stair and frame protection

At both ends, on every job, including a single item. Communal stairs in a converted seafront terrace are where the damage happens.

  • Our own packaging taken away

We leave with what we arrived with. A changeover has no room for a pile of cardboard and neither does a completion day.

  • Dismantling and reassembly

Beds, wardrobes and flat-pack, with fixings bagged and labelled to the item they came off.

  • Keyholder handovers

Working to a named person with your written authority, confirmed in writing at both ends. Normal here, not an exception.

  • Storage between stages

Where a property is being furnished or stripped in stages, the load is sealed once and delivered when you are ready for it.

The coastal part

What we allow for that an inland firm doesn't

  • Salt gets into everything, and it does not come out

Anything stored in a seafront garage, a basement or an unheated outbuilding in Thanet has salt in it. It is why hinges seize, why screws shear off in old flat-pack, and why a wardrobe that came apart fine inland fights you here.

  • Sea air and cardboard are a bad combination

Boxes stored anywhere damp lose their strength without looking any different, which is exactly the failure mode you do not want carrying books down a fire escape. We bring our own and we replace anything that feels soft.

  • Wind is an access problem, not a weather problem

On an exposed seafront a mattress, a wardrobe door or a sheet of glass becomes a sail. There are days on the front when a piece has to go out flat, or by a different route, or not that morning — and we will say so.

  • The seafront is a parking problem all year

Not only in summer. Loading bays, permit bays, promenade restrictions and one-way systems around the harbour and Cliftonville decide where a van can actually stand, which decides how far everything is carried.

  • Old glass, old sashes, old plaster

Much of Margate is Georgian, Regency and Victorian, and a great deal of it is listed or in a conservation area. Original glass, original sashes and lath-and-plaster walls all need a slower door than a new-build does.

Start from what the property is

It changes the day more than the number of bedrooms does.

Where we work

Margate and the whole of Thanet, out along the coast and inland to the villages. The delivery end can be anywhere in the country — a great many moves out of here go back up to London, and a great many coming in are arriving from it.

A home you live in, a let with a changeover, a second home you come down to, or a studio you work from. That answer shapes the quote more than the number of bedrooms does.
